Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetic Retinopathy Diagnosis and Treatment
Diabetic retinopathy is a complication of diabetes that affects the eyes. The cause of this disease is damage to the retina via blood vessels in the back of the eye. If you are diabetic, it is importance to have annual vision exams to collect baseline data to monitor changes over time.
Our testing includes imaging using the Optomap retinal camera to view what is going on in the back of the eye. Diabetic retinopathy is treated using various options, including monitoring, laser treatment, vitrectomy, corticosteroid treatment, and anti-VEGF treatment. We co-manage with several ophthalmologist in our area including Retinal Consultants of Texas and Eye Center of Texas.
